For more than 25 years in the music entertainment industry, one thing has remained consistent: talent alone does not guarantee success. Every day I hear incredible records from artists around the world, but many of those records never reach their audience because the artist lacks a promotional strategy.
Music promotion is the bridge between creativity and visibility.
As the Founder of UMG Network Collective and Ruben Burgos Management, I’ve watched artists spend thousands of dollars recording songs while investing almost nothing into promotion. That’s backwards.
A successful promotional campaign begins before a song is released. Artists should create anticipation through social media teasers, behind-the-scenes footage, countdown campaigns, and direct engagement with fans.
The modern music consumer discovers music through TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Spotify playlists, and algorithm-driven recommendations. If your music isn’t positioned where listeners are already spending their time, you’re missing opportunities.
Independent artists should focus on:
• Building a release calendar
• Creating short-form content daily
• Collaborating with influencers
• Submitting to playlists
• Running targeted advertisements
• Developing relationships with bloggers and podcasters
The goal is not simply to get streams. The goal is to build a loyal audience that follows your journey.
Remember, exposure creates opportunities.
Your next fan is waiting to hear your music. Your job is to make sure they find it.
